Whether or not this is truly an upset, it is a seeded upset. The ’10-’11 Predators did, however, score more than I was expecting. The Preds have never been a big offensive threat and always relied on defense and goaltending. This series did not feature an overtime and only featured two games where the game was decided two goals or less. The ’10-’11 Preds also went 0-for-12 on the power play and the ’84-’85 Jets went 4-for-9. Meanwhile the ’10-’11 Predators outshot the ’84-’85 Jets by almost 10 shots per game.

The ’84-’85 Jets’ goaltender, Brian Hayward, got peppered in this series and posted a 3.43 GAA and a .914 SV%. He held up his end for the most part. Longtime NHLer Doug Smail led the Jets in points, posting six goals and three assists for nine points. 1982 Calder Trophy winner and Hockey Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk was right behind him with one goal and seven assists for eight points. The ’84-’85 Jets’ power play was their only means of offense in Game 7 with defensemen Dave Ellett and Robert Picard posting a goal and an assist each.

Patric Hornqvist lead a balanced attack for the ’10-’11 Preds with three goals and six assists for nine points. He was followed closely behind by defenseman Shea Weber who had three goals and five assists for eight points, center Mike Fisher who had five goals and two assists for seven points and winger Sergei Kostitsyn who had seven assists. In total, the Predators had 18 players register a point, which is the most by any time so far in the tournament. In net, Pekka Rinne did not have as good as a series as expected. He got off to a dreadful start with a .850 SV% after the first two games, but elevate to a .890 SV% by the end of the series with a 3.14 GAA.
