The Battle of Quebec turned out to be not much of a battle as the top-seeded ’76-’77 Montreal Canadiens announced their presence in this tournament with a sweep of the 33rd-seeded ’83-’84 Quebec Nordiques outscoring them 20-7 in the four games. Hall of Famer Steve Shutt tore up the Nordiques with four goals and eight assists for 12 points while being a +12. Shutt led the Canadiens in goals, assists, points, shots and was tied for first in plus/minus. Fellow Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire tied Shutt in plus/minus at +12, but was also second in points, posting two goals and six assists for eight points. Defensemen Guy Lapointe and Serge Savard and winger Guy Lafleur all posted six points and also all Hall of Famers. In net, Hall of Famer, Ken Dryden, who was drafted by Boston by the way :O, posted a 1.75 GAA and a .927 SV% in the sweep, not bad right?

Meanwhile, the Nordiques, who had their way of things in the 1st Round, struggled mightily against the top seeded Canadiens. Like previously stated, they were only able to score seven goals in the four games. Three of which were scored by Wilf Paiement, his only points of the series. Michel Goulet led the Nordiques in points, like he did in the 1st Round, with one goal and three assists for four points. Defenseman Mario Marois added to his assist total with three more giving him 10 assists in the tournament and good enough to lead the Nordiques. The Stastny brothers did not have a good series, Peter Stastny recorded one goal and two assists, but Anton Stastny only recorded one goal and Marian Stastny was pointless. Goaltender Dan Bouchard did not do well against the powerful Montreal offense. He finished the series with a 4.50 GAA and a .881 SV%.
