The ’78-’79 Atlanta Flames have qualified for the 2015 Ultimate NHL Playoff without losing a game. They completed the sweep trifecta by sweeping the ’75-’76 Atlanta Flames in the Qualifying Final. However, this was by far the most competitive of the three series’. The ’78-’79 Flames needed an overtime winner from Jean Pronovost to win Game 1 despite outshooting the ’75-’76 Flames by double digits. Pronovost also added three assists in Game 1. Bob MacMillan totaled three points in the ’78-’79 Flames’ 6-2 win in Game 2 as six different players potted a goal, including MacMillan. In Game 3, the ’78-’79 Flames would need another overtime winner and would get it from Tom Lysiak this time. Pronovost, again, registered three assists while five different players scored a goal in their 5-4 overtime winner. Scoring depth is a beautiful thing. The ’78-’79 Flames completed the sweep with a 3-2 win in Game 4. With nobody scoring more than one goal, again. Guy Chouinard was the only player to register more than one point with his two assists. Lysiak scored the eventual series clincher less than two minutes into the third period.
