The 2nd-seeded ’05-’06 Thrashers got off to a good start offensively in Game 1. However, inconsistency afterwards would lead to just plain poor. They took Game 1 by a final of 5-1 with Bobby Holik‘s two goals and three points leading the way. In Game 2, the 6th-seeded ’08-’09 Thrashers returned the favor with a 5-1 win of their own. Rich Peverley scored two of their goals in the win. The offense returned for the ’05-’06 Thrashers in Game 3 as they won 4-2. Four different goal scorers and a .938 save percentage from Kari Lehtonen helped them take Game 3. That would pretty much be it for the ’05-’06 Thrashers in the series as they would not win another game.
The ’08-’09 Thrashers exploded for eight goals in Game 4 from six different players. Vyacheslav Kozlov and Colby Armstrong both potted two goals apiece. 11 players registered a point for the ’08-’09 Thrashers in their dominating win. Then, a goal each from Kozlov, Ilya Kovalchuk and Bryan Little in the first period, was all the ’08-’09 Thrashers needed to win Game 5. Lehtonen, the starting tendy for both teams, stopped 39 of 40 shots for the ’08-’09 Thrashers in that fifth game and then he stopped 25 of 26 shots in the series-deciding Game 6. The ’08-’09 Thrashers more than doubled the ’05-’06 Thrashers in shots as they took Game 6 by a final of 5-1. Kozlov and Peverley both totaled three points in Game 6 to lead the way.
