The 7th-seeded ’92-’93 Quebec Nordiques posted the best regular season in terms of points in the Nordiques’ history, but lost out to the eventual Stanley Cup champions in the first round of the playoffs. So, they have a lower seed than what their talent level should be. Anyway, the ’92-’93 Nordiques dominated the 2nd-seeded ’81-’82 Quebec Nordiques. Game 1 ended 8-6 in favor of the ’92-’93 Nordiques while they outshot the ’81-’82 Nordiques 54-41. Owen Nolan and Mats Sundin led the attack with four points each. Game 2 was the most even of the series in terms of chances, but the ’92-’93 Nordiques dominated the scoreboard with a 7-3 win. Sundin, again, posted a four-point performance and he was joined in that conversation by Valeri Kamensky who posted a goal and three assists. In Game 3, the ’81-’82 Nordiques opened up a 5-1 lead after the first period with goals from five different players. The five goals led to the pulling of goaltender Ron Hextall. Stephane Fiset came in to replace Hextall and he did not allow a goal the rest of the game. Also, the ’92-’93 Nordiques rallied off five straight goals, including four in the third period to come all the way back and take Game 3 by a final of 6-5. Martin Rucinsky potted the game winner with six plus minutes left in the game. Then, in Game 4, another four point performance from Nolan led the way to a 9-5 win for the ’92-’93 Nordiques to complete the sweep.
