2015 WInnipeg Jets (Original) Qualifying Tournament

Here is a little description of each team in the tourney:

  1. ’84-’85 Winnipeg Jets (43-27-10, 96 points (2nd in Smythe Division), Lost in Division Final)
  2. ’86-’87 Winnipeg Jets (40-32-8, 88 points (3rd in Smythe Division), Lost in Division Final)
  3. ’89-’90 Winnipeg Jets (37-32-11, 85 points (3rd in Smythe Division), Lost in Division Semifinal)
  4. ’91-’92 Winnipeg Jets (33-32-15, 81 points (4th in Smythe Division), Lost in Division Semifinal)
  5. ’92-’93 Winnipeg Jets (40-37-7, 87 points (4th in Smythe Division), Lost in Division Semifinal)
  6. ’95-’96 Winnipeg Jets (36-40-6, 78 points (5th in Central Division), Lost in Conference Quarterfinal)
  7. ’87-’88 Winnipeg Jets (33-36-11, 77 points (3rd in Smythe Division), Lost in Division Semifinal)
  8. ’82-’83 Winnipeg Jets (33-39-8, 74 points (4th in Smythe Division), Lost in Division Semifinal)

The ’84-’85 Winnipeg Jets were the 31st seed in the inaugural Ultimate NHL Playoff. They held a 3-1 series lead over the 34th-seeded ’10-’11 Nashville Predators, but fell in seven games.

Players to Watch:

  • C – Dale Hawerchuk – The Hall of Famer posted a career-high 130 points during the ’84-’85 season with 53 goals and 77 assists. He also spent the first nine years of his 17-year career in Winnipeg.
  • D – Phil Housley – Remembered most for his eight years as a Buffalo Sabre, Housley spent three seasons with Winnipeg and was an All-Star during the ’91-’92 season and finished in the top five of the Norris Trophy voting twice.
  • RW – Teemu Selanne – Arguably the most famous and most loved member of the original Winnipeg Jets, Teemu set all kinds of records his rookie season with 76 goals, 56 assists and 132 points in the ’92-’93 season.

The tournament begins tomorrow! The 1st Round will carry over into Thursday and the Semifinal will take place on Friday with the Final on Monday.
