OT Winner from Hamel Completes Sweep for 2nd-Seeded ’86-’87 Jets Over 7th-Seeded ’87-’88 Jets

The 2nd-seeded ’86-’87 Winnipeg Jets took control of this series in the first period of Game 1 and never lost it. They scored five goals from five different players in that first period and eventually won Game 1 by a final of 8-3. Defenseman Dave Ellett and center Dale Hawerchuk both posted two goals and one assist in the win for the ’86-’87 Jets. In Game 2, they ’86-’87 Jets scored four goals in the second period to lead to a 6-4 win and a 2-0 series lead. Paul MacLean totaled two goals and three assists while Hawerchuk posted one goal and four assists. Then, the ’86-’87 Jets scored five goals in the second period that helped lead to a 10-5 win in Game 3. Brian Mullen, along with Hawerchuk and MacLean, posted two goals and two assists for the ’86-’87 Jets in the win. In Game 4, the 7th-seeded ’87-’88 Winnipeg Jets finally showed up and forced an overtime thanks to a goal from Hawerchuk in the third period. However, Gilles Hamel scored just over five minutes into the overtime for the ’86-’87 Jets to complete the sweep.
