Reddick Shuts the Door in Game’s 5 and 6 as 2nd-seeded ’86-’87 Jets Defeat 3rd-seeded ’89-’90 Jets in Six Games

In Game 1, a PP goal from defenseman Fredrik Olausson gave the 3rd-seeded ’89-’90 Winnipeg Jets a 3-2 lead after the first period. They held a 4-2 lead heading into the third, but Brent Ashton and Dave McLlwain each scored for the 2nd-seeded ’86-’87 Winnipeg Jets to force an overtime. Defenseman Tim Watters scored less than a minute into overtime to give the ’86-’87 Jets a 1-0 series lead. The ’89-’90 Jets rebounded with a 7-4 win in Game 2 with Dale Hawerchuk‘s two goals leading the way. In Game 3, Paul MacLean scored with five plus minutes left in the third for the ’86-’87 Jets to tie the game at three, which eventually forced overtime. Ashton then scored early in overtime to give the ’89-’90 Jets a 2-1 series lead.

Game 4 started out with three goals being scored before the game was two minutes old. Hawerchuk scored for the ’86-’87 Jets at 0:56 mark of the first period. Then, Greg Paslawski scored at the 1:13 mark and Paul Fenton scored at the 1:42 mark for the ’89-’90 Jets. In the third period, with the ’86-’87 Jets up 3-2, Gilles Hamel scored to give the ’86-’87 Jets a 4-2 lead. Pat Elynuik scored late in the third for the ’89-’90 Jets to make it a one-goal game, but they never found the tying goal. This is where goaltenderPokey Reddick shut it down for the ’86-’87 Jets. He allowed three goals on 34 shots in Game 5. The ’86-’87 Jets rallied off eight goals in Game 5 with Hawerchuk’s three points leading the way. Reddick then allowed one goal on 28 shots against in Game 6. Doug Smail scored two goals and added an assist as the ’86-’87 Jets ended the series with a 7-1 win.
