4th-seeded ’35-’36 Maroons Sweep 5th-seeded ’29-’30 Maroons

A goal each from defenseman Lionel Conacher and Russ Blinco got the 4th-seeded ’35-’36 Montreal Maroons off to a good start. Baldy Northcott, who spent the ’35-’36 season playing as a forward, potted the empty-netter that sealed a 4-2 win in game 1 for the ’35-’36 Maroons. They then dominated in Game 2 in an 8-4 win. Bob Gracie totaled four assists in the game and Jimmy Ward potted two goals in the win. In Game 3, the ’35-’36 Maroons took a 3-2 lead late in the opening period thanks to a PP goal from defenseman Stewart Evans. They held that lead until Babe Siebert scored five seconds into the third period for the 5th-seeded ’29-’30 Montreal Maroons. Later in the third, Northcott scored to give the lead back to the ’35-’36 Maroons, which they held onto for a 4-3 win and 3-0 series lead. The ’35-’36 Maroons held a 5-0 lead going into the third period in Game 4 with two goals from Hooley Smith. The ’29-’30 Maroons staged a bit of a comeback thanks to three goals in the third period, but they ultimate fell well short as the ’35-’36 Maroons completed the sweep with a 6-3 win.
