Earl Robinson’s Overtime Goal in Game 5 Sends Top-seeded ’34-’35 Maroons Back to UNP; Defeat 6th-seeded ’33-’34 Maroons

The top-seeded ’34-’35 Montreal Maroons dominated the opening game of this series by doubling the 6th-seeded ’33-’34 Montreal Maroons in shots. However, the score was tied in the third, 2-2, but Jimmy Ward scored to give the top seed a 3-2 lead and then Bob Gracie added an insurance marker in the final few minutes, which ultimate ended the scoring. The ’33-’34 Maroons responded with a 3-1 win in Game 2 with eight different players registering a point, but no player registering more than one point. In Game 3, Glenn Brydson scored at the 16:28 mark of the third period for the ’33-’34 Maroons to tie the game 1-1. The game went to overtime, but Earl Robinson scored just 23 seconds in to give the ’34-’35 Maroons a 2-1 series lead. Three goals in the first period of Game 4 then propelled the ’34-’35 Maroons to a 3-1 series lead as Robinson totaled three assists in the win. In the series-deciding fifth game, the ’34-’35 Maroons took a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Robinson just 41 seconds into the game. That score remained until Paul Haynes scored for the ’33-’34 Maroons at the 17:49 mark of the third period, which forced an overtime. Robinson then ended the series with his second OT goal of the series three plus minutes into the overtime period.
