Top-seeded ’26-’27 Senators Defeat 8th-seeded ’29-’30 Senators in Five Games After Losing Game 1 in Double Overtime

The 8th-seeded ’29-’30 Ottawa Senators came out in Game 1 and outplayed the top-seeded ’26-’27 Ottawa Senators. They took a 1-0 lead thanks to a Hec Kilrea goal in the second period. The ’26-’27 Senators tied it halfway through the third thanks to Hooley Smith. Then, the next goal wasn’t until double overtime when Alex Smith won it for the ’29-’30 Senators. The ’26-’27 Senators responded with two goals in the opening period of Game 2. They eventually took Game 2 by a final of 4-1 as defenseman Alex Smith and Cy Denneny both tallied two goals and one assist. In Game 3, the ’26-’27 Senators took a 2-1 lead after the first period and that was all they needed to take a 2-1 series lead. Game 4 was tied 2-2 after two periods, but then Frank Finnigan and Jack Adams scored for the ’26-’27 Senators in the third to seal a 4-2 win. Denneny then exploded for a hat trick in the first period of Game 5 as he led the top seed to a series-clinching 4-2 win.
