Reigning Representatives, 6th-seeded ’25-’26 Senators Win Tight Five-Game Series over 2nd-seeded ’22-’23 Senators

This five-game series featured three one-goal games and two two-goal games, in terms of victory margin. In Game 1, two goals from the 6th-seeded ’25-’26 Ottawa Senators in the second period led them to a 3-1 win. Cy Denneny accounted for three of the four goals in the game with two of them for ’25-’26 Senators and one for the 2nd-seeded ’22-’23 Ottawa Senators. Then, two goals in the third period for the ’22-’23 Senators led them to a 4-2 win in Game 2. Frank Nighbor potted two goals and defenseman George Boucher tallied three assists. In the next game, Denneny scored at the 9:19 mark of the third to give the ’25-’26 Senators a 3-2 lead, but Eddie Gerard scored four seconds after that to re-tie the game at three. Hec Kilrea scored in overtime for the ’25-’26 Senators to give them a 2-1 series lead. In Game 4, Nighbor scored just under two minutes into the third to give the ’25-’26 Senators a 3-0 lead with his second of the game. The ’22-’23 Senators rallied off two goals after that to make it a one-goal game, but they could never find a third. The two teams were tied 2-2 after two periods in Game 5, and Nighbor scored yet again for the ’25-’26 Senators with less than a minute left in the third period to end the series with a heart-breakingly late goal.
