Pavelec Posts a .943 SV% as ’13-’14 Jets Defeat ’12-’13 Jets in Five Games

The 2nd-seeded ’13-’14 Winnipeg Jets stormed out of the gates in Game 1. They scored five goals from five different players in the first period alone. They added a sixth goal from a sixth different player in the third period as they took the opening game 6-3. Ondrej Pavelec stopped 53 of 56 shots for the ’13-’14 Jets in the win. Then, in Game 2, the two teams combined for five goals in the first period. Andrew Ladd started the scoring just four seconds into the game for the 3rd-seeded ’12-’13 Winnipeg Jets, but the ’13-’14 Jets held a 3-2 lead after the first. Ladd then scored three plus minutes into the third period to give the ’13-’14 Jets a 4-2 lead, which led to them taking a 2-0 series lead. The ’12-’13 Jets won Game 3 by a score of 4-1 as Pavelec stopped 42 of 43 shots.

In Game 4, the ’13-’14 Jets held a 1-0 lead going into the third. Blake Wheeler scored a PP goal to give them a 2-0 lead early in the third, but Ladd scored just three seconds later to get the ’12-’13 Jets on the board. Wheeler then scored for the ’12-’13 Jets at the 9:19 mark of the third to tie the game 2-2, which forced an overtime. Olli Jokinen scored the overtime winner for the ’13-’14 Jets almost 12 minutes into the extra period to give them a commanding 3-1 series lead. In Game 5, Nik Antropov gave the ’12-’13 Jets a 2-0 lead two minutes and 18 seconds into the third period. However, Evander Kane scored 29 seconds after Antropov to get the ’13-’14 Jets on the board. The ’13-’14 Jets then rattled off four more goals in the third period to give them a 5-2 win, clinching the series.
