The ’12-’13 Columbus Blue Jackets were the 36th seed in the inaugural Ultimate NHL Playoff. In the First Round, they defeated the 29th-seeded ’85-’86 Hartford Whalers in seven games after trailing 3-2 in the series. Then, they were swept by the 4th-seeded ’73-’74 Boston Bruins in the Second Round.

Players to Watch:

  • LW – Rick Nash – Columbus’ #1 overall pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft is by far their leading scorer in the franchises history. Over nine seasons with the club, he posted 289 goals and 258 assists for 547 points in 674 games played. He was a 7-time 30 goal scorer and two-time 40-goal scorer over that span.
  • C – Ryan Johansen – Currently the franchise player for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Johansen was selected fourth overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. It took a couple of seasons for him to get his feet under him in the NHL,  but over the last two seasons he has posted 59 goals, 85 assists and 137 points as he played in all 82 games both seasons.
  • LW – David Vyborny – He ranks second in franchise history in games played, goals, assists and points. All behind Nash. I know it’s not saying much when he’s a player to watch, but he did post two 60 point seasons with the Blue Jackets and was a very solid winger.

The tournament begins tomorrow! The 1st Round will carry over into Wednesday and the Semifinal will take place on Thursday with the Final on Friday.
