Top-seeded ’14-’15 Jets Defeat 2nd-seeded ’13-’14 Jets in Seven Games; Will Make UNP Debut

The top-seeded ’14-’15 Winnipeg Jets won in the end, but the 2nd-seeded ’13-’14 Winnipeg Jets shutout them out in Game 1. Ondrej Pavelec posted a 44-save shutout performance as Mark Scheifele and Olli Jokinen scored the lone goals in their 2-0 win. The ’14-’15 Jets responded with a 5-2 win in Game 2. Jiri Tlusty led the way offensive with three assists. Bryan Little scored twice in the first eight plus minutes of the second period of Game 3 to tie the game 2-2 for the ’14-’15 Jets. However, Jacob Trouba retook the lead for the ’13-’14 Jets late in the period and Little scored early in the third to give the ’13-’14 Jets a 4-2 lead. Trouba scored for the ’14-’15 Jets to bring the lead back within one, but Scheifele potted an empty-netter to seal a 5-3 win for the ’13-’14 Jets. Game 4 was tied 2-2 until late in the third period. Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien scored with one minute and 14 seconds left in the third to give the ’14-’15 Jets a 3-2 lead, and Tlusty added an empty-netter with less than a minute left.

Then, thanks to a goal each from Little and Jokinen, the ’13-’14 Jets held a 2-0 lead after the first period of Game 5. Lee Stempniak scored six and a half minutes into the second to get the ’14-’15 Jets on the board. Then, the two teams combined for four goals in the final two minutes of the second with three coming from the ’13-’14 Jets as they took a 5-2 lead. The final of which forced Ondrej Pavelec to be pulled from the game for backup Michael Hutchinson. Toby Enstrom notched a PP goal for the ’13-’14 Jets early in the third to give them a 6-2 lead. The ’14-’15 Jets potted two goals in the third, but that would be it as the ’13-’14 Jets took a 3-2 series lead. In Game 6, the ’14-’15 Jets scored five goals in the second period on their way to a 6-2 win, including the second and third of the game for Andrew Ladd and a shorthanded goal from Drew Stafford. Little used Adam Lowry started the scoring in Game 7 for the ’14-’15 Jets. He gave them a 1-0 lead after the first period and then Michael Frolik and Mathieu Perreault were the lone goal scorers in the second as the ’14-’15 Jets held a 3-0 lead after two periods. Stafford and Scheifele scored at the 1:33 and 1:48 mark, respectively, of the third period to give the ’14-’15 Jets a 5-0 lead. Pavelec was pulled yet again for Hutchinson. The ’13-’14 Jets scored three goals later in the period, with two from Byfuglien, but the final would be 5-3 in favor of the top seed.
