Connauton’s PP Goal in Game 5 Clinches Series for 4th-seeded ’14-’15 Blue Jackets Over 5th-seeded ’10-’11 Blue Jackets

The opening game of the series featured only three goals. All of them came in the first period. Nick Foligno scored just 11 seconds into the game for the 4th-seeded ’14-’15 Blue Jackets. Rick Nash then tied the game for the 5th-seeded ’10-’11 Blue Jackets with less than a minute and a half left in the period. Then, Foligno scored his second of the game with 15 seconds left in the period as the ’14-’15 Blue Jackets won 2-1. Three goals in the second period helped lead the ’14-’15 Blue Jackets to a 5-1 lead in Game 2. The ’10-’11 Blue Jackets scored two goals in the third to bring it to a 5-3 lead, but that would be the final. In Game 4, after a goal from Nash in the first period, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky would shut the door the rest of the way as the ’14-’15 Blue Jackets took a 3-0 series lead with a 3-1 win. Goaltender Steve Mason then posted a 36-save shutout performance in Game 4 as the ’10-’11 Blue Jackets won 4-0. R. J. Umberger, Nash and defenseman Fedor Tyutin all posted multi-point games in the win. In Game 5, Scott Hartnell gave the ’14-’15 Blue Jackets a 4-2 lead early in the third. After an Umberger goal for the ’10-’11 Blue Jackets, defenseman Kevin Connauton scored a PP goal with five plus minutes left to retake a 5-3 lead. Nash then scored just 12 seconds later, but Connauton’s goal would be the series clincher.
