Top-seeded ’13-’14 Blue Jackets Defeat 8th-seeded ’05-’06 Blue Jackets in Five Games

In Game 1, the two teams combined for six goals in the first 23 plus minutes of action. The top-seeded ’13-’14 Blue Jackets held a 3-2 lead and after a goal from Ryan Johansen just about three and a half minutes into the second period they took a 4-2 lead. Brandon Dubinsky then scored halfway through the second to force goaltender Marc Denis to be replaced by Pascal Leclaire, who would stop all 34 shots against over the rest of the game. The 8th-seeded ’05-’06 Blue Jackets took their first lead of the series early in the second period of Game 2. Nikolai Zherdev and David Vyborny scored a little over two minutes apart from each other to give the ’05-’06 Blue Jackets a 2-1 lead. However, Fedor Tyutin and Artem Anisimov scored just 20 seconds apart late in the second to give the ’13-’14 Blue Jackets a 3-2 lead. They increased their lead to 5-3 in the third and that would be the final. Then, in Game 3, Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 32 of 33 shots as he led the ’13-’14 Blue Jackets to a 3-1 win. Defenseman Adam Foote led the ’05-’06 Blue Jackets offensively in Game 4 with a goal and two assists as they denied the top seed a sweep. The series ended in Game 5 as the ’13-’14 Blue Jackets dominated to an 8-0 win. Marian Gaborik, Brandon Dubinsky, Nick Foligno and defenseman James Wisniewski all tallied three points in the series-clinching win.
