The ’10-’11 Nashville Predators were the 34th seed in the inaugural Ultimate NHL Playoff. They trailed 3-1 in their First Round series against the 31st-seeded ’84-’85 Winnipeg Jets before they came back to win in seven games. In the Second Round, they pulled off a major upset by sweeping the 2nd-seeded ’61-’62 Toronto Maple Leafs. Then, in the Third Round, they lead the 18th-seeded ’06-’07 Anaheim Ducks 3-2, but eventually blew that lead and lost in seven games.

Players to Watch:

  • G – Pekka Rinne – The Predators franchise has long relied on defense and goaltending. Rinne has been the starting goaltender for Nashville for seven seasons now and has become one of the best in the world.
  • G – Tomas Vokoun – Before Rinne, it was Vokoun who backstopped the Predators for 7-8 years. He didn’t quite have the defense that Rinne has, but he still posted some very good seasons for Nashville.
  • D – Shea Weber – The greatest player in franchise history. The team’s current captain is already the third-longest tenured player in Predators history at the age of 29. In 685 games, Weber has posted 146 goals and 246 assists for 392 points and 541 PIM. If not for Zdeno Chara, Weber would have the hardest shot not only in just the current NHL, but in all of the league’s history.

The tournament begins on Monday! The 1st Round will carry over into Tuesday and the Semifinal Round will take place on Wednesday with the Final on Thursday.
