Erat’s OT Winner in Game 7 Sends 3rd-seeded ’06-’07 Predators to UNP for First Time; Defeat 4th-seeded ’05-’06 Predators in Seven Games

The 3rd-seeded ’06-’07 Predators started the series off by scoring four goals in the first period of Game 1. The 4th-seeded ’05-’06 Predators fought back in the second by scoring three goals, but they would lose the opening game 6-3. Defenseman Kimmo Timonen had an incredible game for the ’06-’07 Predators while he posted two goals and two assists. The ’05-’06 Predators found themselves down 3-2 after two periods, but a goal each from Adam Hall and Paul Kariya turned the game around and they won 4-3. Then, in Game 3, Timonen, Jason Arnott and David Legwand all posted three point games as the ’06-’07 Predators won 6-2. The ’05-’06 Predators took Game 4, 4-1, with defenseman Marek Zidlicky and Martin Erat posted a goal and an assist each.

The first two periods of Game 5 were the same as the first two periods of Game 1. The ’06-’07 Predators led 5-3, but the ’05-’06 Predators kept the fight going in the third this time. They tied the game 5-5 by the 6:45 mark of the third thanks to two quick goals from Steve Sullivan and Mike Sillinger, his second of the game. At the 13:29 mark, with the game still tied, the ’06-’07 Predators and Erat were awarded a penalty shot, but he was denied by goaltender Chris Mason, who replaced starter Tomas Vokoun at the 1:26 mark of the second period. Sillinger then completed his hat trick with just under four minutes left to give the ’05-’06 Predators their first lead of the game. However, Arnott scored less than 30 seconds later to retie the game back up for the ’06-’07 Predators. Then, Legwand scored two minutes after that to give the ’06-’07 Predators right back, which they held on for the win.

In Game 6, J.P. Dumont scored a little over two minutes into the game to give the ’06-’07 Predators an early 1-0 lead. Then, in the third period, Scott Hartnell got the ’05-’06 Predators on the board and tied the game. Three plus minutes later, Arnott scored yet again to give the ’06-’07 Predators the lead again. With Vokoun pulled for the extra attacker in the final minute of the game, the ’05-’06 Predators tied the game thanks to Yanic Perreault. His goal forced overtime and Sullivan won it for the ’05-’06 Predators just about three and a half minute into the extra period to force a Game 7. Sullivan gave the ’05-’06 Predators a 2-1 lead in the second period of Game 7. After Peter Forsberg tied the game shortly after for the ’06-’07 Predators, Sullivan gave the ’05-’06 Predators a 3-2 lead nearly halfway through the third. Defenseman Ryan Suter was called for holding at the 18:07 mark, which gave the ’06-’07 Predators a PP. With 50 seconds left in regulation, Kariya scored to tie the game 3-3, which forced another overtime. Finally, a minute and a half into the overtime, Erat scored to send the ’06-’07 Predators to their first Ultimate NHL Playoff appearance.

The ’06-’07 Nashville Predators are the 22nd team to now qualify for the 2015 Ultimate NHL Playoff. It will be their first trip to the tournament and they are the 9th team that will make their debut in the upcoming 2015 Ultimate NHL Playoff.
