The opening game of the series featured seven goals and four of them came in the first period over a span of six minutes. The 5th-seeded ’12-’13 Sharks held a 3-1 lead after the first period and then two goals in a span of 17 seconds in the second period forced the 4th-seeded ’01-’02 Sharks to pull starting goaltender Evgeni Nabokov for backup Vesa Toskala, oh yeah lol. The ’12-’13 Sharks would another in the third to cap off a 6-1 win to start the series. Logan Couture and Patrick Marleau, along with defenseman Dan Boyle, posted three points in the win. The ’01-’02 Sharks responded with a 4-1 win in Game 2 with three of their goals coming in the second period. Vincent Damphousse was the only player to post a multi-point game in the win with his two assists. Game 3 featured five goals in the first period with four of them coming on the power play. The ’01-’02 Sharks forced the ’12-’13 Sharks to pull starter Antti Niemi early in the second for backup Thomas Greiss after a Damphousse goal gave them a 5-1 lead. The ’01-’02 Sharks would go on to win 6-2.
In Game 4, Joe Thornton gave the ’12-’13 Sharks a 2-0 lead almost nine minutes into the second period. However, a goal each from Damphousse and Teemu Selanne from the ’01-’02 Sharks tied the game by the end of the period. That wouldn’t bother the ’12-’13 Sharks, though, as they scored twice in the third to win 4-2 and tie the series 2-2. The ’01-’02 Sharks would dominate in the resulting Game 5. They outshot the ’12-’13 Sharks 44-28 as they went on to win 5-2. Selanne registered a hat trick to led the ’01-’02 Sharks offensively. Meanwhile, Damphousse, Mike Ricci and defenseman Brad Stuart would all post multi-point games. Game 6 was a fitting end to the series. Nabokov was pulled in Game 1 after allowing five goals on 24 shots against. However, in Game 6, Nabokov would stop all 36 shots he saw. Damphousse potted two goals to led the ’01-’02 Sharks offensively towards a 4-0 win to clinch the series.
