The 4th-seeded ’01-’02 San Jose Sharks opened up a 3-0 series lead beginning with a 5-1 win in Game 1. Vincent Damphousse was a huge reason for the big lead to start the series as he posted four goals and one assist in the first three games, including a two goals and one assist in their Game 1 win. Damphousse then scored the overtime winner in a 4-3 Game 2 win. Then, Mike Ricci potted a hat trick for the ’01-’02 Sharks in Game 3 to cap off a 5-3 win. The 8th-seeded ’07-’08 San Jose Sharks’ comeback began with their 4-2 win in Game 4. Milan Michalek and Joe Thornton both posted three points in that win to lead the way. The ’01-’02 Sharks opened up a 2-0 lead after the first period of Game 5, but the ’07-’08 Sharks scored three in the second and another in the third to comeback for a 4-2 win. Michalek, again, potted two goals while Joe Pavelski and defenseman Christian Ehrhoff both posted multi-point games.

Then, in Game 6, the ’07-’08 Sharks held a 3-0 lead 15-plus minutes into the game, but Damphousse would scored back-to-back goals to cut that lead to 3-2 seven and a half minutes into the second. However, the ’07-’08 Sharks came back with two goals of their own to take a 5-2 lead and that would be enough to force a Game 7. Teemu Selanne gave the ’01-’02 Sharks a 1-0 lead in Game 7 just past the nine minute mark of the first period However, in the second, a goal each from Thornton and Pavelski had the ’07-’08 Sharks leading 2-1 going into the third. After each team potted a PP goal in the third period, the ’01-’02 Sharks found themselves down 3-2 in the final minute. That is when Matt Bradley would score with 37 seconds left in regulation to force an overtime for the ’01-’02 Sharks. Then, just 56 seconds into overtime, defenseman Brad Stuart was called for a double-minor charging penalty, giving the ’07-’08 Sharks a four minute PP. The ’07-’08 Sharks would fail to score over the next four minutes, but eight seconds after Stuart left the box, Steve Bernier would beat goaltender Evgeni Nabokov to complete the comeback for the ’07-’08 Sharks.
