Oh yeah, remember these unis?……..Lalime would be the #1 star in the series-deciding seventh game with his 25-save shutout, his second of the series, for the ’01-’02 Senators. (via torontosun.)
The 4th-seeded ’01-’02 Senators stormed out of the gates in this series by scoring three goals in the first period of Game 1. However, goalie Craig Anderson of the 5th-seeded ’12-’13 Senators shut them out the rest of the game. The ’12-’13 Senators got two goals from defenseman Chris Phillips in the third, but his second was with just one second left in regulation, so the ’01-’02 Senators took the first game. Game 2 would have the same final with the ’01-’02 Senators taking it 3-2 while scoring a goal in each period from three different players. They then scored one goal in each period of Game 3 and won 3-0 thanks to a 43-save shutout from goalie Patrick Lalime. Eight players registered a point in the win for the ’01-’02 Senators with none of them totaling more than one point. The ’12-’13 Senators’ comeback attempt began with a 2-1 win in Game 4. The game was 1-1 after the first period and then Phillips scored in the final minute of the second, which would go on to be the game-winner.
In Game 5, after Daniel Alfredsson scored the only goal in the first, for the ’12-’13 Senators, defenseman Wade Redden tied the game in the second for the ’01-’02 Senators. It remained tied until two minutes into the third when Mika Zibanejad would give the ’12-’13 Senators the lead back. They then got an insurance marker later in the period from Cory Conacher on the PP. They held on for a 3-1 win. Shawn McEachern gave the ’01-’02 Senators a 1-0 lead in the first period of Game 6, but about four and a half minutes later Jakob Silfverberg scored on the PP for the ’12-’13 Senators to tie it. Alfie then scored seven seconds into the second to give the ’01-’02 Senators another lead. The ’12-’13 Senators then scored twice in the third to turn the tables and force a Game 7 with Alfie scoring the tying marker and defenseman Erik Karlsson potting the game-winner on the PP in the final minute of regulation. However, as the title says, the ’12-’13 Senators would not complete their comeback thanks to a 25-save shutout from Lalime for the ’01-’02 Senators. Martin Havlat would pot two goals for the ’01-’02 Senators and they would end the series with a 2-0 win.
