Bertuzzi and Naslund Lead 7th-seeded ’01-’02 Canucks in Six-Game Upset of 2nd-seeded ’93-’94 Canucks

In Game 1, defenseman Mattias Ohlund scored a PP goal early in the third to give the 7th-seeded ’01-’02 Canucks a 5-2 lead. However, the 2nd-seeded ’93-’94 Canucks scored three goals in a span of two and a half minutes later in the third period to tie the game at five. The game went into overtime and it was the bruising Donald Brashear who won it two plus minutes into overtime for the ’01-’02 Canucks. They then took a 2-0 series lead with a 6-3 win in Game 2. Todd Bertuzzi and Markus Naslund totaled five goals and four assists for nine points in Game 2 after they totaled two goals and six assists for eight points in Game 1. Then, in Game 3, Matt Cooke (douchebag) scored early in the third to give the ’01-’02 Canucks a 3-2 lead. However, much like Game 1, the ’93-’94 Canucks tied the game late int he third from Trevor Linden this time. Pavel Bure (legend) scored an unassisted goal 16 plus minutes into overtime for the ’93-’94 Canucks. The ’01-’02 Canucks needed three goals in the third period of Game 4 from Bertuzzi to complete a 4-2 win.

Next in Game 5, Naslund scored twice within a span of four seconds late in the second to give the ’01-’02 Canucks a 4-1 lead. Geoff Courtnall then scored almost a minute later for the ’93-’94 Canucks to cut the lead to 4-2. Then, Naslund completed his hat trick with a goal three plus minutes into the third. Linden scored 55 seconds later to answer for the ’93-’94 Canucks to make it a 5-3 game. Bure then scored a few minutes later to make it a one-goal game and then Jose Charbonneau scored a couple minutes after that to tie the game for the ’93-’94 Canucks. That goal forced overtime and defenseman Jyrki Lumme scored almost seven and a half minutes into the overtime to help the ’93-’94 Canucks stave off elimination for at least one game. The ’93-’94 Canucks actually took a 1-0 lead into the third period, but the ’01-’02 Canucks eventually beat goaltender Kirk McLean almost seven minutes into the third. Then, Jan Hlavac broke the tie with three plus minutes left before Naslund sealed the series with an empty-netter.
