This Semifinal Round featured three overtime games with the first coming in Game 1. The 7th-seeded ’96-’97 Stars held a 3-2 going into the third period. However, early in the third, Mike Ribeiro scored to tie the game for the 3rd-seeded ’07-’08 Stars and forced an overtime. After scoring the game-tying goal, Ribeiro took a high-sticking penalty just 49 seconds into overtime and defenseman Sergei Zubov took advantage just nine seconds into the PP to get the ’96-’97 Stars the win. They didn’t need overtime to win in Game 2 as they dominated to a 5-1 win with defenseman Darryl Sydor (3A) and Pat Verbeek (2G) leading the charge. The ’07-’08 Stars got on the board in the series with a 4-0 win in Game 3 while being outshot 43-24. Goalie Marty Turco stopped all 43 shots against while Jere Lehtinen netted two goals to lead offensively. Next, in Game 4, the two teams were tied 2-2 at the start of the third period, but the ’07-’08 Stars scored twice in the first three and a half minutes to take a 4-2 lead. Then, late in the third, the ’96-’97 Stars scored twice in 42 seconds to tie the game back up and eventually force overtime. This overtime didn’t take very long either as defenseman Grant Ledyard won it for the ’96-’97 Stars just under six minutes into the period, which gave the 7th seed a 3-1 series lead.

The ’07-’08 Stars rebounded in Game 5 where they took a 2-1 lead into the final minute of the third, but with just 19 seconds left in regulation, Dave Reid tied the game for the ’96-’97 Stars and forced a second consecutive overtime game. For the first time in the series, the ’07-’08 Stars won an overtime game when Ribeiro scored at the 16:35 mark to force a Game 6. Mike Modano netted a hat trick in that Game 6 to lead the ’07-’08 Stars to a 5-3 win and force a Game 7 on “home” ice. Neither team found their way onto the scoreboard in the first two periods of Game 7. Then, just 26 seconds into the third, Modano scored to give the ’07-’08 Stars a 1-0 lead and then just under two minutes later, Niklas Hagman found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Halfway through the period, Todd Harvey got the ’96-’97 Stars on the board and cut the lead in half, but Modano potted an empty-netter in the final seconds to seal a spot in the Final for the ’07-’08 Stars.
