In Game 1, Brenden Morrow scored at the 2:48 mark and the 3:15 mark of the first period, but one for both the 4th-seeded ’02-’03 Stars and the 3rd-seeded ’07-’08 Stars. Then, later in the period, Mike Modano scored to give the ’07-’08 Stars a 2-1 lead, which they held until late in the second period. Scott Young tied the game in the final seconds of the second for the ’02-’03 Stars and the game went into overtime tied 2-2. Then, four and a half minutes into overtime, Niklas Hagman scored the game-winner for the ’07-’08 Stars. The ’02-’03 Stars responded with two shutouts in a row beginning with a 2-0 win in Game 2. Goalie Marty Turco stopped all 29 shots against in that win and then he stopped all 19 shots against in Game 3. The ’02-’03 Stars dominated to a 5-0 win in Game 3 with Modano, Manny Malhotra and Scott Young all posted a goal and an assist each to lead the way. Then, the ’02-’03 Stars dominated their way to a 5-1 win in Game 4 with Jason Arnott and Niko Kapanen being the only two players with more than one point.

The ’07-’08 Stars took a 2-1 lead into the second period of Game 5 thanks to a goal from Mike Ribeiro late in the first. Then, defenseman Darryl Sydor tied the game nearly five and a half minutes into the second for the ’02-’03 Stars, but halfway through the period, Hagman scored the final goal of the game as the ’07-’08 Stars avoided elimination with a 3-2 win. They were staring elimination in the face for much of regulation in Game 6. Pierre Turgeon scored two and a half minutes into the game for the ’02-’03 Stars and they held that 1-0 lead until more than halfway through the third period. Ribeiro tied the game for the ’07-’08 Stars at the 12:16 mark and that eventually forced overtime. However, elimination finally greeted the ’07-’08 Stars when Arnott scored with just over three minutes left in the overtime period, which sealed another UNP appearance for the ’02-’03 Stars.
