The ’98-’99 Carolina Hurricanes were the 17th seed in the inaugural Ultimate NHL Playoff. They swept the 48th-seeded ’30-’31 Philadelphia Quakers in the First Round and then took a 3-0 series lead in the Second Round over the 16th-seeded ’03-’04 Tampa Bay Lightning. However, they would blow that 3-0 lead and become the first team in UNP history to do so.
Players to Watch:
- C – Ron Francis – He had more success in terms of winning elsewhere, and was not an original member of the Canes, but how can I keep the guy who is second all-time in assists of this list?
- C – Eric Staal – And there’s this guy who is Mr. Hurricane. He leads the franchise in games played, goals, assists, points, penalties in minutes and years of service.
- G – Cam Ward – Only the guy above him has worn the Hurricanes logo longer than Cam. Oh and he won the Conn Smythe as a rookie when the Canes won the Cup.
