The 6th-seeded ’10-’11 Hurricanes may have won in just five games, but they needed two wins in overtime to do it. Their first OT win came in Game 1 where they won 6-5 with Brandon Sutter netting the game-winner. Defenseman Joe Corvo totaled an impressive five assists in the win. Game 2 would also go to overtime, but it would be the 7th-seeded ’99-’00 Hurricanes who would come out with the win. The game was tied 1-1 just over six minutes into the first period and then Ron Francis won it three plus minutes into overtime to tie the series. In Game 3, the ’10-’11 Hurricanes led 2-1 after two periods, but the two teams combined for five goals in the third. Three of them came from the ’10-’11 Hurricanes as they won 5-3. Eric Staal scored two goals while both of his linemates, Jeff Skinner and Cory Stillman, tallied two assists. The ’10-’11 Hurricanes broke out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, but the ’99-’00 Hurricanes slowly chipped away.

Sami Kapanen tied the game for the ’99-’00 Canes nine and a half minutes into the third period and then less than two minutes later, Andrei Kovalenko scored to give them the lead. Then, with 36 seconds left in regulation, Skinner scored to tie the game for the ’10-’11 Canes to force overtime. Exactly five minutes into OT, Tuomo Ruutu scored to give the ’10-’11 Hurricanes a 5-4 win and a 3-1 series lead. Then, in Game 5, the ’99-’00 Hurricanes led 3-2 going into the third period, but Corvo tied the game for the ’10-’11 Hurricanes with eight minutes left. Then, with a little less than a minute left in the third, Tom Kostopoulos scored what would be the series-clincher for the ’10-’11 Canes. They would win 4-3 and move on to the Qualifier Final in five games.
