Except for the socks, I always kind of liked these uni’s. Anyway, the ’10-’11 Lightning are now the 15th team that will make their UNP debut in the upcoming tournament. (Photo via zimbio.com)

Two goals per period was enough for the top-seeded ’03-’04 Lightning to win Game 1. Cory Stillman accounted for two of them as the top seed won 6-4. Then, in Game 2, the ’03-’04 Lightning scored three goals in about two and a half minutes in the third period to lead them to a 4-2 win. Stillman, again, scored twice to lead them offensively. The 3rd-seeded ’10-’11 Lightning got on the board in the series with a 4-2 win in Game 3. Martin St. Louis and Simon Gagne led them to the win as both of them posted three points. Goaltender Dwayne Roloson then registered the first of two shutouts in the series with a remarkable 59-save shutout performance in Game 4. Steve Downie and Ryan Malone surprisingly led them offensively as they both posted a goal and an assist. Meanwhile, goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 42 of 45 for the reigning representatives in the losing effort. Game 5 was a 2-2 draw after the first period and in the second period, Vincent Lecavalier scored with a little over seven minutes left to give the ’03-’04 Lightning a 3-2 lead.

The ’10-’11 Lightning trailed up until the 17:12 mark of the third period when Gagne tied the game at three and forced overtime. It took until five and a half minutes into the second overtime to find a game-winner when Fredrik Modin scored to give the ’03-’04 Lightning a 3-2 series lead. Roloson posted his second shutout of the series in Game 6 when he stopped all 42 shots he saw to help force a Game 7 for the ’10-’11 Lightning. Meanwhile, St. Louis scored twice to lead them offensively in the 4-0 win. In Game 7, after the two teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, Lecavalier gave the top seed a 2-1 lead early in the second and they held that lead at the start of the third. St. Louis then scored a little over six minutes into the third to tie it at two for the ’10-’11 Lightning. Later, just past the halfway point of the period, Downie was called for roughing and St. Louis scored on the resulting PP to give the top seed a 3-2 lead. However, two and a half minutes later, Dominic Moore scored for the ’10-’11 Lightning to tie the game at three. Regulation ended at three all and so the game went into overtime. Just over five minutes into overtime, St. Louis set up Lecavalier for the series-clincher for the ’10-’11 Lightning as they clinched their first appearance in the Ultimate NHL Playoff.
