This series featured three overtime games and the first was Game 1. The 6th-seeded ’95-’96 Lightning led the 3rd-seeded ’10-’11 Lightning 4-2 after two periods. However, goals from defenseman Eric Brewer and Simon Gagne less than two minutes apart in the third forced an overtime for the ’10-’11 Lightning. The next goal wouldn’t come until the 17:27 mark of the second overtime when Alex Selivanov scored his third goal of the game for the ’95-’96 Lightning and sealed a 5-4 win. In Game 2, Steven Stamkos scored with less than four minutes left in the second period to tie the game 2-2. Then, a goal each from Petr Klima and Rob Zamuner early in the third gave the ’95-’96 Lightning a 4-2 lead. Just a few minutes later, Klima was called for charging and Martin St. Louis scored for the ’10-’11 Lightning on the resulting PP to make it a one-goal game. Then, with 2:58 left in the third, Vincent Lecavalier scored to tie the game for the ’10-’11 Lightning as they dominated the period.

They received justice a little over a minute later when St. Louis scored, again, to give them a 5-4 lead, which would wind up being the final, tying the series at one. The ’10-’11 Lightning dominated the game and tallied over 20 shots on goal in each of the three periods. In Game 3, two goals from Dominic Moore in the first period led the ’10-’11 Lightning to a 3-2 win. Then, in Game 4, the two sides were tied 1-1 after the first period and it remained that way until four plus minutes into overtime when defenseman Roman Hamrlik scored tied the series at two for the ’95-’96 Lightning. Game 5 was even in terms of opportunities, but the ’10-’11 Lightning won 6-2 to take a 3-2 series lead. St. Louis and Stamkos led them in the win with both of them potting two goals and adding two assists. Meanwhile defenseman Victor Hedman tallied three assists in the win. In Game 6, Selivanov registered his second hat trick of the series, which included the game-tying goal in the final minute of the second period. Moore would be the next one to tickle the twine a little over five minutes into overtime to seal the series for the ’10-’11 Lightning.
