Behind a four-point (2G, 2A) effort from Tim Kerr, the 6th-seeded ’86-’87 Flyers stole the opening game of this series by a score of 4-3. Brian Propp‘s goal late in the second served as the game-winner. Then, in Game 2, the 2nd-seeded ’73-’74 Flyers scored once in the first and once in the second to hold a 2-0 lead at the start of the third. By the halfway point of the third, the ’86-’87 Flyers had tied the game, but defenseman Tom Bladon scored on the PP with one second remaining in regulation to give the ’73-’74 Flyers a 3-2 win. Bladon then scored the game-tying goal in the first minute of the third period for the ’73-’74 Flyers and force an overtime with the score tied at two. It was Bill Barber who played the role of hero as he gave the ’73-’74 Flyers a 2-1 series lead almost 11 minutes into the overtime. Game 4 was an absolute slaughtering. The ’73-’74 Flyers won 6-1 and outshot the ’86-’87 Flyers 51-15 in the win. Ross Lonsberry and Bill Flett led offensively with both of them totaling two goals and an assist. After defenseman Mark Howe had given the ’86-’87 Flyers a lead in the first period of Game 5, Flett tied the game for the ’73-’74 Flyers and regulation would end tied 1-1. Captain Bobby Clarke would end the series with a goal for the ’73-’74 Flyers six plus minutes into overtime as they advance to the Qualifier Final.
