This was a very tight four game series with not a lot of scoring and not a lot of shots, either. Two goals from Ross Lonsberry led the top-seeded ’74-’75 Flyers to a 3-1 win in Game 1. In Game 2, Rick MacLeish scored early in the second period to give the 2nd-seeded ’73-’74 Flyers a 1-0 lead. Then, with just over seven minutes left in the third period, Bobby Clarke tied the game for the ’74-’75 Flyers. “The Hammer,” or Dave Schultz, potted the game-winning goal two plus minutes into overtime to give the top seed a 2-0 series lead. The “LCB Line,” which included Reggie Leach, Clarke and Bill Barber, combined for two goals and three assists in Game 3 as the ’74-’75 Flyers took a 3-0 series lead with a 3-1 win. The ’73-’74 Flyers held took a 2-0 lead in Game 4 when defenseman Tom Bladon scored three and a half minutes into the second period. Gary Dornhoefer got one back for the top seed late in the second period. Then, Leach scored twice in just FOUR seconds early in the third to tie it and then give the ’74-’75 Flyers a 3-2 lead. The top seed posted only 19 shots on goal in the win and got outshot by 17, but clinched their first appearance in the Ultimate NHL Playoff.
