Bryan Smolinski may have played the role of hero in Game 7, but it was Ziggy Palffy who led the 5th-seeded ’00-’01 Kings offensively in this series. It began in Game 1 when he scored two goals in a 4-2 win for the ’00-’01 Kings with goaltender Felix Potvin stopped 55 of 57 shots against. Then, in Game 2, four goals in the first period led the 4th-seeded ’12-’13 Kings to a 5-1 win. Jeff Carter and Dustin Brown both scored twice in the win. The ’12-’13 Kings then led 2-1 after the first period of Game 3, but the ’00-’01 Kings would outscore them 4-0 the rest of the way for a 5-2 win. Palffy and Luc Robitaille both registered three-point nights in the win. Game 4 went to overtime thanks to a late goal from defenseman Mathieu Schneider for the ’00-’01 Kings. Just over a minute into OT, Kyle Clifford scored the game-winner for the ’12-’13 Kings to tie the series up 2-2.

The ’00-’01 Kings led 4-3 late in the third period of Game 5, but Carter scored with exactly two minutes left in regulation to tie it and force overtime. This OT didn’t last long either, but it was defenseman Rob Blake who won it for the ’00-’01 Kings this time just 38 seconds into the period. Game 6 was tied 2-2 at the start of the third period, but by the halfway point of the period each team had scored once. The ’12-’13 Kings received a late PP and Carter would take advantage to score the eventual game-winner with less than three minutes left to force Game 7, which would be no contest. The ’00-’01 Kings won 7-3 and outshot the ’12-’13 Kings 53-28. As said earlier, Smolinski registered a hat trick, but both Robitaille and Blake totaled three points while Palffy scored twice in a dominant effort.
