The first two games of this series were blowouts by the 5th-seeded ’00-’01 Kings, but the next two games were both decided by one-goal, including an overtime game. It wasn’t until six and a half minutes into overtime for the ’00-’01 Kings to win it and it was a shorthanded goal from Robitaille who gave them the 3-0 series lead. Then, a goal from Palffy early in the third tied Game 4 2-2 for the ’00-’01 Kings. Three plus minutes later, Dave Taylor scored on the PP to restore the ’88-’89 Kings’ lead. With just under six minutes left in regulation, Reinprecht scored to tie the game for the ’00-’01 Kings and then 40 seconds later, Palffy scored a PP marker to give them their first lead of the game.
