7th-seeded ’74-’75 Kings Complete Improbable Run By Sweeping 5th-seeded ’00-’01 Kings in Final; Clinch First UNP Appearance

The 7th-seeded ’74-’75 Kings took a 3-2 lead into the third period of Game 1, but just over a minute into the third, Juha Widing scored to give them a 4-2 lead. The 5th-seeded ’00-’01 Kings got one back in the final minute, but they would fall 4-3. The ’74-’75 Kings would take a 2-0 series lead with a 1-0 win in Game 2. Goalie Rogie Vachon stopped all 28 shots against as Bob Nevin scored the lone goal on the PP early in the third. They then scored five goals in the first period of Game 3 from five different players. The ’00-’01 Kings pulled starting netminder Felix Potvin after that fifth goal, which happened with just three seconds left in the opening period. The ’00-’01 Kings chipped away a bit, but the final score would be 5-3. Four players posted a multi-point game in the win for the ’74-’75 Kings with Mike Murphy, Tom Williams and Frank St. Marseille all posting a goal and an assist. The ’74-’75 Kings completed the sweep with their second 1-0 win in the series. Vachon only faced 12 shots on goal, but he stopped them all and Bob Berry scored the only goal.

The ’74-’75 Los Angeles Kings are the 37th team to qualify for the upcoming 2015 Ultimate NHL Playoff. It will be their first trip to the tournament and they are the 17th team that will make their debut in the upcoming 2015 Ultimate NHL Playoff.
