Brodeur and Elias Lead 4th-seeded ’00-’01 Devils Over 6th-seeded ’93-’94 Devils in Six Games; Will Make First UNP Appearance

First off, here is the entire tournament bracket!

The 6th-seeded ’93-’94 Devils poured it on the 4th-seeded ’00-’01 Devils at the start of this series. After leading 4-2 after two periods in Game 1, the ’93-’94 Devils scored three times in the third, including two from Stephane Richer to complete his hat trick, to win 7-2. Meanwhile, Jim Dowd tallied four assists and Valeri Zelepukin found the twine twice. The ’00-’01 Devils responded with a 6-2 win in Game 2 where they scored four times in the second period. Petr Sykora led them in the win with three goals and an assist. In Game 3, a goal and an assist from Patrik Elias and then 39 saves on 41 shots against for Martin Brodeur led the ’00-’01 Devils to a 3-2 win. The ’93-’94 Devils then tied the series up at two with a 4-2 win in Game 4. Claude Lemieux netted a hat trick in the win while defenseman Scott Stevens posted a goal and two assists. The ’00-’01 Devils took Game 5 by a score of 5-2 with two goals from Elias leading the way. Then, in Game 6, Brodeur stopped 39 of 41, again, as the ’00-’01 Devils won 4-2. Four different players scored in the win, but a PP goal from the legendary Alexander Mogilny late in the third was the nail in the coffin.
