The 6th-seeded ’95-’96 Penguins took the opening game of the series thanks to three goals in the third period, including two from Mario Lemieux, to lead them to a 9-7 win. Both Lemieux and Jagr posted five point performances in the game. Meanwhile, defenseman Kris Letang had a five-point night for the 5th-seeded ’12-’13 Penguins, which included a hat trick. The ’95-’96 Penguins then held a 3-2 lead after two periods in Game 2, but Chris Kunitz scored almost eight minutes into the period to force an overtime for the ’12-’13 Penguins. Then, a little over ten minutes into overtime, Jagr score to give the ’95-’96 Penguins a 2-0 series lead. The ’12-’13 Penguins got on the board in the series with a 7-3 win in Game 3 thanks to four points from Sidney Crosby, who posted three goals, including two shorthanded goals, and an assist. Lemieux then outdid himself in Game 4 with a five-goal night while adding an assist as the ’95-’96 Penguins won 8-3. Jagr, Dave Roche and Dmitri Mironov all posted multi-point games. In Game 5, the ’12-’13 Penguins led 2-1 after the first period, but they would be outscored 9-3 over the next two periods. The ’95-’96 Penguins finished off the reigning reps with the 10-5 win in Game 5 while both Jagr and Lemieux both posted two goals and three assists in the win.
