First off, here is the entire tournament bracket!

The reigning representatives, the ‘2nd-seeded ’07-’08 Red Wings got off to a good start with three goals in the first period of Game 1. That would be all the offense that would have needed in the opening game as they won 5-2. It was Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg that led the way in the win with four (1G, 3A) and three (1G, 2A) points, respectively. They would lead them offensively throughout the series, shocking, I know. The 4th-seeded ’54-’55 Red Wings then held a 2-1 lead at the start of the third period thanks to a goal from Alex Delvecchio late in the second. However, Zetterberg tied it early in the third and then Jiri Hudler would give them a 3-2 lead at the 9:25 mark. Zetterberg potted an insurance marker in the final minute to seal a 2-0 series lead for the ’07-’08 Red Wings. The ’54-’55 Red Wings finally got on the board in the series with a 5-2 win in Game 3 thanks to a three-goal second period. Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe, netted a hat trick in the win and Ted Lindsay posted a goal and two assists while goaltender Terry Sawchuk made 40 saves on 42 shots against.

Datsyuk started the scoring in Game 4 with a PP marker in the first period, but Sawchuk would shut the door from there as the ’54-’55 Red Wings tied the series with a 3-1 win. Defenseman Marcel Pronovost led offensively with three assists. The ’54-’55 Red Wings then led 3-2 at the start of the third period in game 5, but Valtteri Filppula tied it early in the third for the reigning reps. Then, just over five minutes later, defenseman Brian Rafalski gave them their first lead of the game. Glen Skov made sure that lead didn’t last very long when he scored just about three minutes later. However, in the final five minutes of regulation, the ’07-’08 Red Wings scored twice, with Datsyuk registering the primary assist on both, to win 6-4 and take a 3-2 series lead. Then, thanks to two goals in the first period from Zetterberg, the ’07-’08 Red Wings led 2-1 after one period. Dutch Reibel scored on the PP late in the second to tie the game for the ’54-’55 Red Wings. The third period was scoreless and therefore forced an overtime. Game 6 finally ended at the 7:50 mark of the second overtime when Rafalski scored to clinch a spot in the upcoming Ultimate NHL Playoff for the second straight time.
