Despite outscoring their opponent 27-14 in the series, it took seven games for the 18th-seeded ’10-’11 Lightning to take care of the 47th-seeded ’34-’35 St. Louis Eagles. In fact, thanks to some incredible goaltending, the Eagles actually held a 2-1 series lead after three games. However, eventually, Tampa’s offense just became too much.

One of the best goal scorers currently in the league, Steven Stamkos, led the Lightning in goals with eight in the series with seven of them coming in Game’s 4 and 5. Martin St. Louis finished second behind Stammer in goals with seven, but he did lead Tampa in assists with 10. Vincent Lecavalier tallied seven assists to finish second behind St. Louis. MSL also led Tampa in overall scoring with 17 points while Stamkos was second with 13. Simon Gagne co-led the Lightning in plus/minus at +10 with, guess who, St. Louis. Three players were tied for second at +7, including Stamkos. The Eagles’ goaltending may have been a major story, but Dwayne Roloson was fantastic, as well. He allowed just 14 goals in the series to finish with a 2.00 goals against average and a .945 save percentage. He registered a 28-save shutout performance in Game 1.

The Eagles were offensively challenged in this series. Only seven players scored a goal for them and there was a three-way tie for the team lead in goals with three, Glenn Brydson, Carl Voss and Joe Lamb. There was also a three-way tie for the team lead in assists with four, Brydson, Oscar Asmundson and defenseman Vern Ayres. Brydson finished with seven points to lead the Eagles in overall scoring and Ayres was second with five. Winger Earl Roche was the only player for St. Louis who finished above even in plus/minus in the series with a +1. Bill Beveridge is the only reason the Eagles were able to hang with the Lightning in this series. He posted a 3.86 goals against average and a .926 save percentage, which may not look all that great, but it is when you realize he faced an average of 52.3 shots against per game. He totaled 50 or more saves three times and posted a series-high of 61 saves in a 2-1 win in Game 3.
