The Ottawa Senators moved to St. Louis to become the Eagles. The St. Louis Eagles lasted for one season and that would be the ’34-’35 season, of course, and they were pretty brutal. No surprise. Here is how the fared in the 2nd Annual Ultimate NHL Playoff:

First Round:

Led 18th-seeded ’10-’11 Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1, but then trail 3-2 in series before losing in seven games

Despite this being the only season of their existence, they actually replaced their coach during the season. Eddie Gerard was fired after starting the season 2-11-0. George Boucher replaced him, but didn’t fair any better as the Eagles posted a 9-20-6 under Boucher. So, the Eagles finished with a record of 11-31-6, which was good for 28 points and fifth in the Canadian Division. They were ninth in the league in goals for with 86 (1.79/game) and eighth in the league in goals against with 144 (3.00/game). Hockey Reference ranked the Eagles’ strength of schedule as the toughest in the league, and their SRS rating system had the Eagles ranked last overall in the league. St. Louis finished the season 16 points behind the final playoff spot in their division.

Hall of Famers Carl Voss and Syd Howe were two key pieces to the Eagles’ offense. Voss led the team in points with 31 and was tied for first on the team in assists with Glenn Brydson with 18. Brydson was also second in points behind Voss with 29 and Howe with 27 points was third. Howe was the team’s leading goal-scorer with 14 and Voss was second with 13. Brydson was tied with Joe Lamb for third in goals on the team with 11. Goaltender Bill Beveridge was pretty….okay, by today’s standards, for the Eagles. He appeared in all 48 games for St. Louis and posted a 2.89 goals against average with three shutouts.

Next up in the team recaps are the 46th-seeded ’19-’20 Quebec Bulldogs!
