Here is a little description of each team in the tourney:

  1. ’06-’07 Minnesota Wild (48-26-8, 104 points (2nd in Northwest), Lost in Conference Quarterfinal)
  2. ’14-’15 Minnesota Wild (46-28-8, 100 points (4th in Central), Lost in Second Round)
  3. ’02-’03 Minnesota Wild (42-29-10-1, 95 points (3rd in Northwest), Lost in Conference Final)
  4. ’05-’06 Minnesota Wild (38-36-8, 84 points (5th in Northwest), DNQ for Playoffs)
  5. ’08-’09 Minnesota Wild (40-33-9, 89 points (3rd in Northwest), DNQ for Playoffs)
  6. ’07-’08 Minnesota Wild (44-28-10, 98 points (1st in Northwest), Lost in Conference Quarterfinal)
  7. ’15-’16 Minnesota Wild (38-33-11, 87 points (5th in Central), Lost in First Round)
  8. ’03-’04 Minnesota Wild (30-29-20-3, 83 points (5th in Northwest), DNQ for Playoffs)

The ’08-’09 Minnesota Wild have been the 35th seed in both of the first two Ultimate NHL Playoffs. In the inaugural UNP, they were able to advance from the First Round after defeating the 30th-seeded ’11-’12 Phoenix Coyotes before they were swept in the Second Round by the 3rd-seeded ’07-’08 Detroit Red Wings. In the Second Annual UNP, the ’08-’09 Wild were beat out by the 30th-seeded ’85-’86 Hartford Whalers in five games.

Player to Watch:

  • C – Mikko Koivu – Longtime captain of the franchise, Koivu is the franchises all-time leading scorer with 500 points (144 goals, 356 assists) in 681 games played. He’s also 2nd in goals and 1st in assist in franchise history.
  • RW – Marian Gaborik – In 502 games, Gaborik scored 219 goals, which is most in the history of the franchise. He also posted 218 assists and 437 points, which are 3rd and 2nd, respectively.
  • G – Niklas Backstrom – He spent nine seasons with the Wild, which is most of all goaltenders who have been with the franchise. He won the William M. Jennings Trophy for his stellar performance in the 2006-2007 season where he posted a record of 23-8-6, a 1.97 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.
