The Nordiques franchise has had two different representatives in the first two Ultimate NHL Playoffs. In the inaugural UNP, the ’83-’84 Nordiques were the 33rd seed and got bounced out in the Second Round by the top-seeded ’76-’77 Montreal Canadiens after an easy First Round victory. Then, in the Second Annual UNP, it was the ’84-’85 Nordiques who represented the franchise as the 34th seed and were eliminated by the 31st-seeded ’84-’85 Winnipeg Jets, who were the highest-scoring offense in the tournament.
Players to Watch:
- The Stastny Brothers – Anton, Marian and Peter were central figures of the Nordiques franchise during the 1980s and not just for their outstanding performances on the ice.
- LW – Michel Goulet – The Hall of Famer spent 10+ seasons with the Nordiques, including four seasons where he posted 100+ points. He finished with a career high 121 points in the ’83-’84 season.
- C – Joe Sakic – A legend of the game and a Hall of Famer is most known as a member of the Cup champion Avalanche, but was a true superstar for the Nordiques after his rookie season of ’88-’89.
The tournament results will be posted on the next weekday at 1 pm EST!
