Here is the 2016 New York Americans Qualifying Tournament bracket in its entirety.
Yep, for the third time in three tournaments, it will be the ’37-’38 New York Americans representing the Big Apple’s first hockey franchise in the Ultimate NHL Playoff. And they did it by not losing a single game in this tourney. A hat trick from Eddie Wiseman led the ’37-’38 Amerks to a 5-1 victory in Game 1. Defenseman Joe Jerwa started off a very good series performance with a three-assist performance in the opening game. Goaltender Earl Robertson had his best game of the series, stopping 35 of 36 shots against. Game 2 had the same score line in favor of the ’37-’38 Amerks as four different players registered multi-point games, including two assists from both Jerwa and Sweeney Schriner. Game 3 was the closest of the series as the ’37-’38 Amerks won 4-2. Despite dominating play, the ’37-’38 Amerks were stiffled a bit by goaltender Jake Forbes of the ’26-’27 Americans who posted 41 saves. However, another two assist performance from Jerwa and four different goal scorers helped the eventual champs open a 3-0 series lead. The sweep was complete with a 6-3 win in Game 4 as both Nels Stewart and John Sorrell posted a goal and two assists. Jerwa had to settle for just a goal, shame.
