Here is a little description of each team in the tourney:

  1. ’84-’85 Washington Capitals (46-25-9, 101 points (2nd in Patrick), Lost in Division Semifinal, 0.93 SRS)
  2. ’83-’84 Washington Capitals (48-27-5, 101 points (2nd in Patrick), Lost in Division Final, 0.93 SRS)
  3. ’09-’10 Washington Capitals (54-15-13, 121 points (1st in Southeast), Lost in Conference Quarterfinal, 0.90 SRS)
  4. ’91-’92 Washington Capitals (45-27-8, 98 points (2nd in Patrick), Lost in Division Semifinal, 0.78 SRS)
  5. ’15-’16 Washington Capitals (56-18-8, 120 points (1st in Metropolitan), Lost in Second Round, 0.70 SRS)
  6. ’85-’86 Washington Capitals (50-23-7, 107 points (2nd in Patrick), Lost in Division Final, 0.58 SRS)
  7. ’92-’93 Washington Capitals (45-27-8, 98 points (2nd in Patrick), Lost in Division Semifinal, 0.57 SRS)
  8. ’88-’89 Washington Capitals (41-29-10, 92 points (1st in Patrick), Lost in Division Semifinal, 0.50 SRS)

The ’08-’09 Washington Capitals were the 26th seed in the inaugural Ultimate NHL Playoff and were a major bust as they were swept out of the First Round. Then, in the Second Annual UNP, the ’83-’84 Washington Capitals were the 25th-seeded and made a nice run to the Quarterfinal. The upset the 8th-seeded ’81-’82 New York Islanders in the Second Round, but then were later eliminated in the Quarterfinal by the top-seeded ’78-’79 Montreal Canadiens.

Players to Watch:

  • LW – Alex Ovechkin – Duh.
  • RW – Mike Gartner – Third all-time in scoring for the Caps, Gartner was the first star scorer in Washington’s history.
  • RW – Peter Bondra – Before Ovie, Bondra held most the goal-scoring records in Caps history. Also known as Bonzai, Bondra had incredible speed and had one of the best shots of his time.
