Here is the 2016 Washington Capitals Qualifying Tournament in its entirety.

The top-seeded ’84-’85 Washington Capitals stormed out of the gate with four goals in the first period of Game 1, two of them coming from Dave Christian. The 3rd-seeded ’09-’10 Washington Capitals responded with five goals in the second period, two of them coming from Tomas Fleischmann. Then, each team scored once in the third period, both in the final three minutes, to force an overtime tied 6-6. Mike Gartner scored just 17 seconds into overtime to finish off his hat trick and give the ’84-’85 Caps a 1-0 series lead. Then, in Game 2, the ’09-’10 Caps led 4-3 at the start of the third period. Christian scored for the ’84-’85 Caps with just under eight minutes remaining in the third to tie it up. However, a 5-on-3 PP goal from Alexander Semin just two plus minutes later wound up being the game-winner as the ’09-’10 Caps tied the series at one. They then took a 2-1 series lead with a 5-3 win in Game 3 after leading 3-0. Defenseman Mike Green tallied four assists for the second consecutive game.

The ’09-’10 Caps led 3-1 after two periods of Game 4, but the ’84-’85 Caps scored four unanswered goals in the third period, two from Gartner, to come from behind and win 5-3. Then, in Game 5, the ’84-’85 Caps were rallying late, but the ’09-’10 Caps held on for a 4-3 win to take a 3-2 series lead. Brooks Laich had his second multi-goal game of the series in the win. Game 6 was not much of a competition as the ’84-’85 Caps dominated both in shots and goals as they forced a Game 7 with a 7-2 win. Defenseman Scott Stevens from the blue line led the way offensively with a goal and three assists while both Bob Carpenter and Alan Haworth potted a couple of goals each. In Game 7, the ’84-’85 Caps broke out to a 4-1 lead by the midway point of the game before holding on late to win 5-3. Stevens, again, played a crucial role as he scored twice, including an empty-netter to seal the win, and added an assist. With the result, the Capitals’ franchise will now have three different representatives in the first three Ultimate NHL Playoffs.
