The ’88-’89 Calgary Flames have represented the Flames in both Ultimate NHL Playoff’s so far as the 19th seed in the inaugural UNP and the 17th seed in the Second Annual UNP. It was a tale of two tournaments, though, as they were the runners up in the inaugural tourney and then failed to get out of the Second Round in the second tourney.

Players to Watch:

  • RW – Hakan Loob – One of the main contributors to the ’88-’89 Flames’ 2nd place finish in the UNP and was awarded the UNP “Rocket” Richard Trophy for most goals in the inaugural tournament with 23 in 31 games played. He was also awarded the inaugural UNP Ted Lindsay Award for tournament’s most outstanding player.
  • C – Joe Nieuwendyk – Another key part of the ’88-’89 Flames’ runner up finish. He finished tied with Loob for most points in the tournament with 40 points in 31 games and shared he UNP Art Ross Trophy.
  • RW – Jarome Iginla – Mr. Calgary Flame himself. He was always one of my favorites to watch. He’s the franchises all-time leading scored with 525 goals, 570 assists and 1,095 points in 1,219 games played.

The tournament results will be posted on the next weekday at 1 pm EST!
