Here is the 2016 Montreal Maroons Qualifying Tournament in its entirety.

For the first time in Ultimate NHL Playoff, the ’34-’35 Montreal Maroons will not make an appearance. The top-seeded ’34-’35 Maroon took the first two games of this final, but dropped the next four games to the third-seeded ’29-’30 Montreal Maroons. Earl Robinson led the ’34-’35 Maroons with three points (2G, 1A) in their 4-1 Game 1 win. Goaltender Alec Connell also stopped 41 of 42 shots against for the ’34-’35 Maroons. Then, in Game 2, the ’34-’35 Maroons led 4-1 going into the third period. However, the ’29-’30 Maroons scored three times in the third, including two from Nels Stewart, to force an overtime. It wasn’t until with five plus minutes remaining in the second overtime that Bob Gracie scored to give the ’34-’35 Maroons a 5-4 win and a 2-0 series lead. The ’29-’30 Maroons responded from the tough loss with a 4-2 win in Game 3 with Stewart leading the way with three points (1G, 2A).

At the 12:51 mark of the third period in Game 4, Baldy Northcott scored to give the ’34-’35 Maroons a 2-1 lead. However, just 22 seconds later, Babe Siebert tied the game back up for the ’29-’30 Maroons and eventually force overtime. Of course it would be Stewart who won it in overtime for the ’29-’30 Maroons for his third point of the night. With the series now at two, the ’29-’30 Maroons broke out to a 4-1 lead, but had to hang on late for a 3-2 win and a 3-2 series lead. Merlyn Phillips scored twice in the win while his linemate Jimmy Ward tallied two assists. The ’29-’40 Maroons then completed the upset of the top seed with a 4-1 win in Game 6. Goaltender Flat Walsh stopped 36 of 37 shots against while Siebert and Archie Wilcox were the only two players in the game with more than points with a goal and an assist each.
