Top-seeded ’12-’13 Blackhawks Sweep 3rd-seeded ’14-’15 Blackhawks; Will Make Second UNP Appearance

Here is the 2016 Chicago Blackhawks Qualifying Tournament in its entirety.

This was a very low-scoring series as Game’s 2, 3 and 4 had only a combined three goals each. Game 1 finished a 4-2 final, in favor of the top-seeded ’12-’13 Chicago Blackhawks. Captain Serious, Jonathan Toews, scored twice as they limited the 3rd-seeded Chicago Blackhawks to just 16 shots on goal. Then, in Game 2, Andrew Shaw, of all people, scored just over a minute into overtime to give the ’12-’13 Blackhawks a 2-0 series lead. Goaltender Corey Crawford allowed one goal on 27 shots against in the win while the ’14-’15 Blackhawks’ Crawford stopped 35 of 37.

The ’12-’13 Blackhawks took a 3-0 series lead with a 2-1 win in Game 3. Michael Frolik scored the game-winner with just seven plus minutes remaining in the third period. Toews scored again for the ’12-’13 Blackhawks while going 11-of-14 in the faceoff dot. In Game 4, Toews scored a shorthanded goal in the middle of the second period to tie the game at one for the ’12-’13 Blackhawks. The sweep was completed in the third overtime as Bryan Bickell, somehow, scored the game-winner to clinch the second Ultimate NHL Playoff appearance for the ’12-’13 Blackhawks. Both goaltenders made over 50 stops in the game with Crawford making 54 for the ’12-’13 Blackhawks.
