Here is the 2016 Montreal Canadiens Qualifying Tournament!
After winning the Inaugural Ultimate NHL Playoff, but missing out on the Second Annual UNP, the top-seeded ’76-’77 Montreal Canadiens are heading back. They swept the 3rd-seeded ’77-’78 Montreal Canadiens, who were bidding for their first trip to the UNP. The sweep started with a 2-1 win in Game 1 for the ’76-’77 Habs thanks to unanswered goals from Yvon Lambert and defenseman Guy Lapointe in the second period. That was just the beginning of a huge series for Lapointe. In Game 2, Lapointe had a goal and two assists as the ’76-’77 Canadiens won 5-1. Doug Jarvis pitched in with a couple of goals, as well, in the win. Then, Lapointe scored twice in Game 3 as the ’76-’77 Habs won 3-1 while his defensive partner, Larry Robinson, registered the primary assist on both of his goals. Finally, in Game 4, Lapointe scored twice and added an assist as the ’76-’77 Canadiens completed the sweep with a 5-1 win. Again, his defensive partner, Robinson, had a big night as well with three assists. All this while goaltender Ken Dryden allowed just four total goals over the sweep for the ’76-’77 Canadiens.
