The Third Annual Ultimate NHL Playoff begins with a blowout sweep. Like most of these First Round matchups over the year, especially one that included an extent, almost ancient franchise. The 19th-seeded ’05-’06 Mighty Ducks of Anaheim swept the 46th-seeded ’19-’20 Quebec Bulldogs, outscoring them 31-9 in the process.
Obviously, the ’05-’06 Mighty Ducks’ offense fair pretty well in this series. Of course it was the Finnish Flash, Teemu Selanne, that led them in goals with eight over the four games. He registered a hat trick in the ’05-’06 Mighty Ducks’ 6-0 shutout win in Game 3. Joffrey Lupul was second in goal-scoring behind the Flash with five goals and scored at least once in every game of the series. Andy McDonald racked up the assists while on a line with the Flash, totaling 12 in the series. Captain and defenseman Scott Niedermayer was a distant second in helpers with just six. McDonald and Selanne were the two leaders in overall scoring with 14 and 11 points, respectively. However, Niedermayer did post the highest plus/minus rating on the team at +14 while both McDonald and Selanne were tied for second at +13. In net, goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere was kind of up-and-down during the series, but in the end posted some good overall numbers. Over the four games, he posted a 2.25 goals against average along with a .940 save percentage and with that one shutout, of course.
The ’19-’20 Bulldogs only scored nine goals over the course of the four games and there was a three-way for the team lead at two between Joe Malone, Thomas McCarthy and Jack McDonald. McDonald was also tied for the team lead in helpers at three with defensemen Ed Carpenter and Harry Mummery. Naturally, McDonald was the team’s leading scorer overall with five points while there was a three-way tie for second at two between Carpenter, Malone and McCarthy. I’m not even gonna mention plus/minuses for this team. The team’s two goaltenders, Frank Brophy and Howard Lockhart, all saw significant time. Brophy started all four games, but was pulled in each. In the end, Brophy was the goaltender on record for all four losses and posted a 5.00 goals against average with a .839 save percentage. Meanwhile, Lockhart posted a 2.75 goals against average and a .908 save percentage.

In their second consecutive UNP appearance, the ’05-’06 Mighty Ducks advance from the First Round, again. In the Second Round, they will have a favorable matchup against the 14th-seeded ’29-’30 Montreal Maroons, who are making their UNP debut. Meanwhile, the ’19-’20 Bulldogs were eliminated in the First Round, again. It was they’re only season of existence, though, so they will be back.
Next up in the First Round, the 26th-seeded ’05-’06 Ottawa Senators face the 39th-seeded ’78-’79 Atlanta Flames!
